Bienvenido a Sevilla!
In just 12 years, WOMEX has grown from 200 to over 2.500 delegates, making it the most anticipated, productive and successful event of the world music year. We'll be in Sevilla again this year, thanks in part to a growing partnership with the city's cultural department, ICAS.

WOMEX. Where in the world can you meet so many colleagues, exchange so many ideas and contacts, do so much business - and still find time to hear so much great music? In Sevilla, that's where!

Sevilla: Looking back and looking forward

Boasting traces of cultures as diverse as Phoenician, Roman, Arabic, Muslim, Jewish and Christian, Sevilla has been an authentic melting pot for the last 30 centuries. Legend has it that Hercules himself founded this capital of Andalusia, and it is today a spirited combination of all it has been and all it is still in the process of becoming. Gateway from Africa to Europe and once the point of departure for the New World, its 700.000 inhabitants make Sevilla the fourth biggest city in Spain, the artistic, cultural, financial, economic and social centre of the south. Given its strategic importance and rich cultural history, Sevilla hosted two major expos - the 1929 Exposición Ibero-Americana World's Fair and the Expo 92 World's Fair. It's rightfully proud of its reputation as one of the most picturesque and lively old towns worldwide and a comfortable one at that with its average October temperature of 19 ° C / 66 ° F.

New for 2007:
2007 promises the fullest integration yet with the city of Sevilla, this Gateway to the Americas and to the world. With the daytime Conference, Trade Fair and Day Cases at FIBES, the night time Showcase Festival will be housed right in the city centre at the historic Teatro Lope de Vega/Casino de la Exposición and at the Plaza de España a five minute walk away (check out the venue map here!). We are working in partnership with local festival producers to assure the best possible conditions.
