Another Visa Problem
The Congolese group Konono No. 1 did not obtain their visas for
touring in Europe this summer. The reason given was: "Sorry, no time"
even though all necessary documents had been handed in a long time
before. Flights, accommodation, insurance have been paid for already.
Festival promoters throughout Europe have to find last minute
alternatives.
Michel Winter, Divano Production, is Konono No. 1's agent for Europe. He has experienced the same story before with another Congolese band: Kasai Allstars. They were selected to perform at WOMEX 06 but had to cancel due to... visa problems. In 2007 they got visas and eventually did their WOMEX showcase.
We must all join forces to fight the visa problems together!

Radiomultikulti: Rip
Broadcasting Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) has announced it is shutting
down radiomultikulti, Berlin's only multicultural and multilingual
radio, the world music pioneer in Europe and heart of the World Music
Charts Europe. The expected date of closure will be by the end of the
year. It shall be replaced by Funkhaus Europa, a programme by our
friends at Western German Broadcasting (WDR). But radiomultikulti and
its invaluable service to Berlin will be sorely missed.
WOMEX wants radiomultikulti to live on!
