RAP REACTS TO POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS IN GUINEA BISSAU
Just after the inception of a rap/hip-hop movement named "BIG UP GB" in Guinea Bissau, the country faced a round of political assassinations and then three months later, another.
BIG UP GB took it upon itself to promote peace and stability in a broken land. The project yielded the first live hip-hop festival in the country as well as a mixtape, entitled "NUNDE KA NO NA BAI?" (WHERE ARE WE GOING?) - which was a direct response to the last round of political assassinations.
Presently Guinea Bissau is entering a second round of presidential elections (to replace the president that was shot dead in the first round of political assassinations in March). As there is such an abundance of media attention on the country right now, this is an opportunity to bring another face of Guinea Bissau forward, one of hope!
