ROSKILDE ANNOUNCES NEW AWARD TO BE PRESENTED AT WOMEX
Roskilde Festival founds World Music Award... The Roskilde Festival World Music Award will be presented at the Sunday Award Ceremony by the Copenhagen Lord Mayor, Ritt Bjerregaard on Sunday 1 November around noon.
The winner will be announced in the coming weeks, and honoured for a contribution to musical and cultural development. The prize is 30,000 euros.
For many years we have had the pleasure of presenting world music to a great audience at Roskilde Festival. Therefore, it is an obvious thing for us to use the event to give something back. That's why we have founded this award, says Peter Hvalkof, booker of world music at Roskilde Festival.

TWO MORE NETWORKING SESSIONS ADDED
More events added, this time two special Networking Sessions.
Networking Session: Freemuse
Thursday 17:15 - 18:00 / Room 17 / Belle Center
This network meeting invites all WOMEX participants who share the concern for artists' freedom of expression to join in and get updated about the global situation for musicians and composers. For 10 years Freemuse has been the only international organisation to advocate freedom of expression for musicians and composers worldwide.
www.freemuse.org is the world's largest database on music and censorship and Freemuse continues to lobby for visa issues.
Freemuse Executive Director, Marie Korpe and Programme Manager, Ole Reitov, wish to "pick your brains" and exchange ideas on such topics as: How can the music industry take more responsibility and upgrade its profile on social responsibility? How can new projects be developed? How can we ensure sustainable funding for the work we do?
Networking Session:
Discover the Spanish Music Industry with Sounds from Spain
Friday 16:15 - 17:15 / Room BV 4 / Belle Center
Sounds from Spain will be attending WOMEX 09 as the Spanish national pavilion and will be organising this informal networking event. It was created with the purpose of supporting and fostering Spanish music internationally. This platform has therefore become crucial for Spanish music companies aiming to export and searching for a wider presence in international markets.
Music is one of the priority sectors for the different Spanish institutions and associations involved in Sounds from Spain and this session is aimed at giving exposure to new initiatives and business proposals from the Spanish companies attending WOMEX. In this informal event you will meet record labels, managers and booking agents, festival organisers, professional associations, institutions, etc. It seeks to foster new partnerships and deepen existing links between the Spanish music industry and the rest of the world.
