This newsletter is all about (future) WOMEX staff:

top WELCOME TO DANIELA TEUBER

She has sinced worked for The Association of Independent Record Labels in Australia, Rolf Budde Musikverlage, and Four Artists Booking Agentur. top THANK YOU, EVELYN

It was with sadness that we learnt that Evelyn Bardow was tired of seeing her boyfriend shipped off to foreign lands while she held down the fort here in Berlin. She decided to join him in his closer posting to Southampton, UK. Evelyn was an indispensable member of the team for the five years she was with us. She has been a consummate professional, an inspiring director and... you know her... she was a delight to work with. We wish her the best of luck in all her future endeavours.

top EXPO GUIDE: HABLA ESPAÑOL?

Here we go again. Those of you who have been getting these newsletters over the years know the sheer number of times we have sent warnings about a company that calls itself the Fair Guide. Another warning is posted permanently on our homepage. They are based in Austria, a country whose courts found their tactics not only unethical but illegal. The Fair Guide sent letters that many felt look like official WOMEX correspondence asking for what appears to be only an address update. Those who don't read the small print or look at the letter carefully didn't realise that this was an independent company - and that they were signing on to a very expensive listing. Then come the threatening letters, and in at least one case that we know of, a collection agency. (Many people simply ignored the threats and we have no knowledge of anyone ever being prosecuted.) We worked strenuously with the Austrian authorities to put an end to this fraud.

It now appears that the same kind of company is operating from Mexico: Expo Guide. We cannot verify this. It may simply be a company using the same tactics. But whatever it is, these letters do not come from us. Only sign on if you want to be listed, for a fee of over 1000 euros, in their own Expo Guide.
