WARNING: CONVENTION EXPO TRAVEL - HOTELS

Dear WOMEXicans,

Exciting news! Here come the first WOMEX 10 Showcase and Conference announcements, there will be many more in the weeks to come, stay tuned...

FIRST SHOWCASES REVEALED

With over 700 proposals to squeeze into a mere three dozen Showcase slots, the WOMEX Jury's work was cut out for them and many hours were spent discussing countless high quality proposals. Of course we cannot disclose the final selection without first offering our sincere thanks to the Showcase Samurai for devoting their precious time and effort to shaping this year's fresh and inspiring Showcase selection.

Once again we successfully worked together with Sonicbids' online listening platform to ease the selection process for the Jury. Samurai Peter Hvalkof, Roskilde Festival, says: "If we had no chance to listen to the stuff on Sonicbids before the Jury meeting, our job would be much harder, and it would not be fair to the artists."

So... we will keep you no further and are extremely proud to present:

  • António Zambujo (Portugal)
  • Bomba Estéreo (Colombia)
  • Cheny Wa Gune Quarteto (Mozambique)
  • Desert Slide (India)
  • DJ Scratchy (UK)
  • Kamel el Harrachi (Algeria/France)
  • Kobo Town (Trinidad & Tobago/Canada)

The selection process is rather challenging as we had to find a good balance of relevant topics, to give voice to good orators, well-known professionals but also less-known albeit pertinent speakers."
