WOMEX NEWSletter #19, 1 September 2011
WARNING: Expo Guide is regularly sending out database update requests to WOMEX delegates - they have recently re-designed their form so watch out! Please note that we are in no way related and never sell any of our customer data to any third party. The Expo Guide update is not free of charge - read the small print carefully.
The WOMEX office is currently buzzing with essays, bios, contacts, schedules, images, maps and more... all of which are helping to shape the valuable content for this year's WOMEX Guide. Remember to register before the Guide Rate deadline on Friday, 2 September if you want to be included in this essential publication for the world music community, presented to each and every delegate at WOMEX 11 in Copenhagen, Denmark, from Wednesday, 26, to Sunday, 30 October 2011.
WOMEX provides professional networks from all across the globe with a platform for their meetings and the chance to get together, brainstorm, discuss and develop ideas. The juicy collection of Networking Meetings at WOMEX 11 will offer plenty to satisfy your curiosity:
A first this year, the Eastern European Networking Meeting, organised by András Lelkes (Hungary) of Hangveto, will explore promoting cooperation within Eastern Europe and also with the wider world. It will offer open discussion and provide expert advice about the importance of networking and the use of online platforms for media support.
Coordinated by Dmitri "Crazy Pants" Vietze (USA) of rock paper scissors, the North American Networking Meeting will provide a happy chance to gather with North American colleagues and swap ideas in a relaxed environment.
Also new, this year's Women of the World Networking Meeting, co-ordinated by Allie Silver (USA/Argentina) of ZZK Records and Deborah Cohen (USA), builds on the success of last year's conference. It will focus on how women in the industry have survived through creativity, agility and adaptability.
The European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals (EFWMF) is inviting all festivals present at WOMEX to attend an informal networking session to get to know each other and prepare the ground for future collaborations.
WOMEX also offers reception rooms for specials occasions - this year three presentations will be hosted: one related to the Opening, Hungarian Heartbeats, providing insight into the Opening programming and the roots of Hungarian music; one from the ACP Network examining the music and culture of Melanesia; one from from Puglia Sounds introducing MEDIMEX, the first Mediterranean Music Expo in Italy.

WOMEX 11 offers the chance to realise one of the last steps planned: an artistic focus on some of the acts proposed by the ACP partners. The project has helped set up great new musical encounters, presented for the first time and ready to tour.
Thanks to the WOMEX Jury for its support in the selection of this programme!
