September has arrived, bringing with it Berlin Music Week and filling the city with life and music. Meanwhile, the WOMEX office is submerged in a sea of registrations, schedules and WOMEX Guide content, as preparations hot up for WOMEX 12, taking place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from Wednesday, 17, to Sunday, 21 October 2012 - just 6 weeks away!

WOMEX 12 LABEL AWARD ANNOUNCED

Already an institution in its seventh year, the annual WOMEX Label Award is hotly contested and warmly anticipated by all who value the contributions of independent record labels. Created as a joint project with the World Music Charts Europe (WMCE), the selection for the WOMEX Label Award is made using the monthly charts of 48 radio broadcasters from 25 countries.

In the week before Recife’s lavish carnival begins, Porto Musical will transform Pernambuco, in the tropical northeast of Brazil, into a vibrant centre of knowledge and discussion about the latest developments in the world of music and technology. This international convention will bring renowned professionals from Brazil and abroad to Recife’s wharf, offering conferences, showcases and an ideal platform for networking.

WOMEX GET-TOGETHER: 22 SEPTEMBER, SOFIA, BULGARIA

Press, artists and music professionals alike are all invited to join us for a WOMEX Get-Together in Bulgaria, taking place during the first edition of MusicPRO, ON! Fest, at the Inter Expo Center on Saturday, 22 September 2012, from 13:00-14:00.

This event will comprise of a WOMEX presentation and a Q&A session. It will be followed by a showcase from WOMEX 12 Club Globalkan act Kottarashky, who were selected from more than 300 proposals to perform at the WOMEX 12 focus stage exclusively dedicated to Balkan music. Club Globalkan is an initiative by WOMEX's local partners – presented by Gaialive in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

The panel will include Yiannis Boutaris, Mayor of Thessaloniki; Giorgos Markakis, Member of WOMEX Steering Committee; Vassil Vulchev, Consulate General of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki; and Matoula Koutsari, WOMEX Balkan Network Manager.
