This pipe band from Brittany is often catalogued as traditional, Celtic or Breton music, but the group prefers to describe itself as contemporary music because, although the bulk of its inspiration is clearly rooted in the Breton musical tradition, this doesn't mean that it closes in on itself or turns its back on the enriching influence of other cultures.
Thanks to this open-minded approach, the band has invited several guest musicians from other countries, culminating in their latest hugely successful show called Sud Ar Su, where famous the Galician piper Susana Seivane is one of several guest performers.
The pipe band which first began in the Fifties in Brittany is made up of a total of fifty musicians in three different sections: bagpipes, bombards and percussion. As well as serving as a school for young musicians, the band regularly takes part in competitions and holds the record of being the only pipe band in Brittany to have won the top prize nineteen times running.
