Erik Marchand is a figure of the Breton song thanks to his many meetings with other artists. He went in for an artistic position asserting a very strong Breton identity, completely opened with the cultures of the world. In the different projects which he led, he has come close to the same approach of adventure and integrity: to immerse himself into cultures he meets and artists who carry them, and to find in the depths the popular music of Brittany the resources to establish or recreate the dialogue with the world. We present two of this projects: Erik Marchand Quartet « Unu, Daou, Tri, Chtar ! », group composed by Jacky MOLARD, famous artist from tje popular Brittany music , and Costica OLAN et Viorel TAJKUNA, two of the most vistuosic gipsies of the Rumanian and Serb Bãnãt music. This quartet proposes modal improvisations, built from traditional topics (track n°7 du CD). The second is Erik Marchand & the Balkaniks (Creation, n°15 from the DVD).
