Thomas Rome
A delegate to the very first WOMEX in Berlin (1994),Thomas Rome has been a fixture on the 'world music' scene for a number of years as a personal manager and lawyer, record producer, and music publisher. Through his U.S.-based companies - African Hypertext, African Broadband Publishing and Editions du Matriciel - and their Senegalese cohort - Xippi - Thomas has earned renown as a vital creative partner in his clients' musical endeavours. He is particularly proud to have been a catalyst in the international careers of three respected figures: Senegal's mbalax modernist Youssou N'Dour, South Africa's jazz piano legend Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand) and Pakistan's master of qawwali singing, the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, all three of whom have become enduring worldwide symbols of the cultures in which their careers emerged.
