Enugwuabo-Ufuma
exchange with Karneval Kulturen Berlin
by DAZAA-Foundation

The Music of Dazaa Dazaa & the Springwater has its roots in the early rock music of the sixties and seventies, influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, as well by the roots-reggae of Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. - Dazaa Dazaa combines rock, reggae and blues with traditional Nigerian Igbo musical elements, creating an ingenious fusion. The songs are enlivened by the playful virtuosity of each musician. With long sustaining instrumental parts and long musical arcs; between clearly structured guitar hooks and wild improvisations: this music has nothing to do with computer-styled hits, that quickly become boring. These are original songs that are bursting with the enjoyment of playing music, and are full of freedom, and the love of rock and groove.
The first album is a rock album, let's see what the second will be...

Kenneth DAZAA Aniama, called DAZAA DAZAA, is a traditional Rastafari with a big heart. He works with creative people in order to create a creative world for us. The real 'All-Round Genius' is singer, dancer, designer, songwriter, musical teacher, artist and actor. He sees himself as a culture preserver whose main aim is keeping the traditions alive.

DAZAA DAZAA & THE SPRING WATER
is a multi-musical group of 4 men with a good musical background in playing instruments, singing and dancing. They started music with special interest from their different countries/ continents before destiny brought them together to work as a family in Berlin.
Their different cultural background helped to achieve DAZAA's dream: to introduce a new musical style to the world He created a mix of African, Asian, European and American music which he calls AFRIROCK. The base of this music is the groove (bass, drums, percussion). The guitar provides rhythm and effects while back-up voices and lead vocal guide the melodies which are the audience and fans love. The dance of the lead singer, back-up singers and other members of Spring Water has a'healing spirit', and the combination of their efforts is like a medicine for the body, mind and soul. This is why they are called: The Spring Water.

DAZAA DAZAA writes the songs and arranges the melodies. It is easy to find the perfect rhythm with Sunny Chung, whom he knows for many years. The understanding among them brought love and tolerance to the group. They help each other as well as others and support the children's welfare etc. through shows and concerts.

DAZAA DAZAA also plays together with the groups:
Ayaya Cultural Troupe (Overseer) and Igbo Cultural Group (Vice Chairman).

THE MUSICIANS
SUNNY CHUNG
the cool musician, was born 1963 in Seoul, South-Korea. Influenced by the groups of music-making Hippies on the Korean beaches, Sunny, at the age of five, got to know the pleasure of listening to and learning the guitar. As he came to West Berlin three years later, he dedicated himself entirely to guitar-playing and music. As an adolescent., he played with Bela B., the future drummer of the German band "Die Aerzte", or in Berlin's probably fanciest formation of the 70ies "Hardware". He took part in several musical projects as well, one of them was the famous "ROCKHAUS", the first governmentally-supported musician project in Berlin.
Besides of composing for a number of famous musicians, Sunny worked in different occupations for several companies and major labels, such as Sony, where he operated as a producer and composer, or IBM. Sunny also has experience in the pedagogical area, as he was teaching music in a college. Besides the piano, Sunny plays all imaginable string instruments, such as violin, bass, sitar or mandolin just to name few of them.
As a free composer, arranger and music teacher, he has taught many people guitar-playing and to others he has just opened another way of listening to it. He also supported numerous bands in their development and formation.
Nowadays Sunny is mainly engaged as an executive producer and as freelance musician.

JEFF CHAPPAH
Mr. Golden Finger on the bass guitar was born in August 1976 in downtown Zambia, Africa. He made his school career to secondary level under a well respected, traditional music-oriented family. Jeff's music ambition started with the nurture of his senior brother who always encouraged him.
His golden fingers have played in many countries of Africa with many bands, p. e. Victory Ministries Sambia and B-Sharp. Jeff was especially engaged in studio recordings as a bass and keyboard player. In that connection he cooperated with Uncle Rex, Jordan Katembula, Masha Moyo, Cremildo, Maureen Lilanda, Sattatree, Lebogos and many more. By this work Jeff made his name and his creative ideas able to get around the world with some released albums. He also took part in performances of Miriam Makeba, Ade Bantu (the founder of Brothers Keepers), Rufin Nkoy etc. Jeff solidified the groove goal of DAZAA DAZAA & The Spring Water as his musical style and stage presence portray respect, love, simplicity and justice.

BERNIE SIGGEMANN
Born and raised in the town of Gutersloh, Bernie acquired a taste for the drums at the age of 12. He was provided an intensive course of one year where he learned the basics for his future work. With 16 he took lessons given by Udo Dahlem and Mark Nauseef. It was in those days when the young percussionist started to teach drumming himself. When he was 14, Bernie performed with his first cover-band in the English caserns in and around Gutersloh. After moving to Berlin, he founded the band '4 on the floor', which was seeking to recreate the pop music of the 80ies in an own style. In the beginning of the 90ies Bernie participated in a couple of Acid-Jazz-oriented formations. In 93 he cooperated with the Hip Hop band Reality Brothers, before it came to the exercise of professional producing- and studio works.
In the year 2002 he met DAZAA DAZAA's guitar player Sunny, which was the beginning of a steady, more than just musical friendship. Bernie also cooperated with Brazilian and Arab musicians,e.g. Guilheme, Ricardo Moreno, Ivo M., Lamin Bel Aala, and many more. Due to this varied participation Bernie became a notorious session musician.

DAZAA DAZAA's OneManShow
Performance with songs from Igbo-Nigeria even suitable as a nice show for children - with stilts, masks, interactive games with the audience /check below http://www.foreigner.de/worldmusic_dazaa.html

This is an always unique exhibition of well-timed and co-ordinated artistic elements of music, dances and percussions. It is a Live-One-Man-Team-Work. The artist shows his full repertoire ranging from the old almost forgotten igbo-negerian traditions which Dazaa learnt from his grandparents to the modern-styled entertainment show. He represents the cultural and musical traditions and myths by using different costumes including
- "The beautiful women"- "Iga"
- " Warrior"- "King"
- "The woman in a man" etc.

These traditions lead the content and actions. The costumes are used to express beauty, attraction, controversy etc. The Songs DAZAA performs come from a more than 1,000 year old history. Their roots are based in a time where there was little understanding of making instruments, so the main object used to accompany the melodies was the bamboo. The songs are folk stories and sung in IGBO. ABAELE p. e. expresses a love story between a man and a woman and is sung by a woman to show a man how she feels. Another type of song, OLIOGU, is a song which can be sung by anyone when he/she needs security for him/her family, work, village/town and is connected with the subjects of war and victory.
Each performance is built as an interactive game between the artist and the audience. DAZAA DAZAA is able to present the show any time at any place. Depending on the event, picks the right part from his repertoire, e. g. the walk on stilts, bamboo-percussion, dance, animated folk tales or the play with music (Playback or modification of traditional songs).

'Sometimes. I need everything available for my concert and sometimes I need nothing. You need to watch it yourself. No show is like the other. Call me DAZAA and I will perform.' (DAZAA DAZAA)

DAZAA also has a KIDS PROGRAMM in English, German or Igbo with games and songs from the Igbo culture.

"My group and me are preaching AYAYA SYSTEM. That is 'to build a bridge of unity and love among people and nations'. We will always try to establish a new idea in music, a new musical style. In order to help other people and to refill a gap in the history I also founded a foundation called DAZAA Foundation". (DAZAA DAZAA)

DAZAA FOUNDATION - the charity branch of DAZAA lnternational, is dedicated to help children and young people to develop their talents. The Foundation searches and supports young talents in the fields of two popular community activities: football (soccer) and traditional performing arts.

DAZAA FOUNDATION
- builds bridges of unity among people from near and far by organizing a Youth Football Competition
and the AYAYA Carnival Enugwuabo-Ufuma
- promotes a forum for children to develop their talents
- assists talented children to pay their school fees

A young but already successful project which reflects DAZAAs philosophy is the 'DAZAA INTERNATIONAL CUP', started in 2007 an annual Football Cup in the east of Nigeria. In the beginning of 2009 five schools from different local villages participated. Girls teams are boosted, as well. As recompenses the foundation provides certificates and trophies, but also the absorption of the educational fees for the period of one year for the best player, the best goalkeeper and shooter.

DAZAA FOUNDATION welcomes new members to the foundation. Cash, material, and active support of any kind from individuals, private and public organizations are welcomed, as well. Please contact the Home Committee in Nigeria or DAZAA in Berlin, Germany.
