In the summer of 2002 the German composers and producers Stefan Schneider-Reuter and Andreas Hirschmann joined up with the two virtuoso Russian musicians Tatjana Borisova (domra) and Andrej Borisov (balalaika) to form a band called "taiga8".
The idea of a pan-global love of Russia inspired the endlessly creative musical world of the two producers and musicians from Cologne to create this homogenous hybrid.
Spirit and emotion, it is between these two characteristics of Russian music that the electro-folk of taiga8 resonates. An unfamiliarly quick and powerful high-speed folk is combined with driving drum 'n' bass elements and breakbeats which send vibrations all the way down to the big toes.
Yearning melodies of an old analogue synthesizer and orchestral harmonies create pictures of endless range.
As diverse as the music of taiga8 is, you can still always feel the Russian soul. taiga8 are one of the most exciting musical experiments from Cologne.
The live set also becomes a real visual experience with video projections from Stefan Schmidt. He turns the music of taiga8, which is rich in images, impressively into visual form.
