Jose Medeiros, known as Zeca Medeiros, was born in the island of St. Miguel, Azores, Portugal.
As a descendant of an island, all in Zeca's reminds the sea: the sea as work, the sea as the main access to a different world, the sea as the way to return to the beloved home... He refers to the sea in all of its meanings, however, when he speaks about the fishermen and its art, he refers, mostly for coarse fishing.
Fados, Fantasmas e Folias (Fates, Ghosts and Follies) marks the return of the multifaceted azorean artist, Jose Medeiros. Author of all songs, lyrics and illustrations of this "book-disc", the musician fuses and confuses the value of words with the azorean culture and traditions, adding with a undeniable mastery and serious tone of his hoarse voice. This disc is the successor of Torna-Viagem (Become a Travel), Jose Afonso's award winner, and contains songs like Camarim Cancao da Timidez (Dressing Room Song of Shyness), Piano Abandonado (Abandoned Piano), O Beijo da Medusa (The Kiss of Medusa), Tango da Mulher Camaleao (Tango Women's Chameleon), A Ilha de Arlequim (The Harlequin Island) or Balada da Ilha do Tesouro (Ballad of Treasure Island), in a double cd.
The artist is distinguished by the intense interpretation of its themes, for his dedication to art and goes beyond the dichotomy of sorrow and joy, the fates and revelry, speaks of the fear of war and the ghosts of everyday life, the authenticity of an artist who has accustomed us to a very personal record and charisma that characterizes his way to be in life, the vast horizons of traditional and contemporary culture, not to mention the drama, in this theatrical scenery that creates and recreates in his work.
