Biru, also known as AF Diaphra, is a doble nacionality artist (Portuguese/Guinea-Bissau)
currently based in Lisbon.
Poet, rapper, edutainer and beatmaker, he creates his music based on multiple influences,
over which he improvises, creating a new sound, a new music – mixture of afro ancestral
sounds, experimental jazz, different urban styles and new non-categorized beats.
In 2012 Biru has made a Tour through Europe as MC/performer of the worldknown
Portugal/Angola group Batida, Project where he was part of the Álbum and performed live.
With his solo career, he has been presenting his work as a rapper, poet and musician in
different projects, Festivals and events, both nationaly and internationaly, such as:
“Festival do Silêncio” (winner of the 1st Portuguese Poetry Slam); “V Spoke’n’Word
Festival” in Poland with Instituto Camões; “Poetry Slam for children”, Goethe Institut;
“Urban Poetry in CCB”, Lisbon; “Palavras na cidade” (“Words in the city”) at Fundação
Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon; MC/Performer with Red Bull Portugal; Musical Production of
Nástio Mosquito, São Paulo, Brazil; Performance at “Virada Cultural”, S. Paulo, Brasil;
“Festival Terra do Rap” (“Rap Land Festival”) in Rio de Janeiro, among others.
“Negreiro Espacial” and “Diaphra´s Blackbook of the Beats”, are two of his latest
works, on Tour in Portugal and abroad.
