TARHANA AT THE CUTTING EDGE OF TRADITION AND EXPERIMENT
WWW.TARHANAMUSIC.COM
The multinational Amsterdam based group Tarhana, call themselves nomads in music, yet they are firmly rooted in the musical traditions of the Balkan, Near East and Asia Minor. As cosmopolitans of today's world they also incorporate elements of European and North American jazz, pop and dance culture. Their music mixes traditional wind, string and percussion instruments with electronic effects and sampling.
Tarhana is an adventurous band that experiments with a wide range of musical textures from ambient soundscapes, to Sufi inspired vocals and funky pulsating dance rhythms.
Since Sjahin During founded the band in 2005, Tarhana has toured in five continents and fourteen different countries worldwide, including collaborations with the Gypsies of Rajasthan for the Maharajah and Mick Jagger, Tunisian singer and dancer Ghalia Benali and at concerts for the Palestinian children in camps in Lebanon, Jordania and Syria, and in the Firipi Mountains with Bulgarian kaval grandmaster Theodosii Spassov.
