Nawal and the women of the Moon

During a stay in Comoros, Nawal met "the women of the Moon" (the term which refers to these African islands) made up of six chorus singers. The result is a mixture which borrows both from traditional sounds as well as from the more modern sounds of the rest of the world.

Their musical complicity and a common commitment to the feminine condition gave rise to a wish to work together to present a project for the emancipation of these women through Art.

An artist's residence has been set up for November 2009 in order to create a show. Exceptionally, this show will be on tour in autumn 2010.


Lors d'un sejour aux Comores, Nawal rencontre "les femmes de la Lune" (terme designant ces iles africaines) composees de six choristes. Il est en ressort un metissage empruntant a la fois aux sons traditionnels et a ceux plus modernes du reste du monde.

De leur complicite musicale et d'un engagement commun vis-a-vis de la condition feminine est nee l'envie de presenter ensemble un projet d'emancipation pour ces femmes a travers l'Art. Une residence est alors mise en place en novembre 2009 pour creer un spectacle.

Ce spectacle sera disponible pour une tournee exceptionnelle en France en automne 2010.
