An intro to the new album “VELOMA” and Quentin Dujardin:
A beautifully crafted piece of work, enriched by intense human and musical experiences, steeped in the juices of global adventure and exchange.
Quentin Dujardin offers in this new album a passionate synthesis of his work as a guitarist and artistic producer. ”Veloma” is the lovechild of Quentin's many musical journeys the world over, from nights spent in lost villages in the Atlas mountains to evenings jamming in some Malagasy bar (the type that are gone by dawn and only come out again at night), from lonely meanderings in the Paraguayan forest to Gypsy, Berber, Gnawa and Guarani gatherings.
His manifold contributions to delightfully wide-ranging artists such as Njava ("Vetse" 1999, "Source" 2002 Hemisphere/EMI) and Bai Kamara Jr alongside his touring work with artists of renown such as Toots Thielmans, Nicolas Fiszman and others demonstrate his mastery in fusing musical styles worlds apart with genuine success.
Quentin’s guitar in all its freshness and molten fluidity brings a pure and raw energy to the gently enchanting melodies throughout the album.
"Veloma" means goodbye in Malagasy. This “goodbye to the known” and the constant searching for the new is at the heart of “Veloma”. The album is a call to departure and dares to create a fusion of style born not simply of the mind, but directly from lived experience and musical discovery.
