Miriam Makeba has always been regarded as South Africa's most famous musical export. She has immersed herself in the vocal traditions of her people and then became a home-grown star by mixing them with African-American influences.

The creator of 'Pata Pata' is still today one of the leading stars from Africa. Besides her musical achievements, she is being bestowed with many honours for her work in Civil Rights and Humanitarianism. In May 2002 she was awarded the Polar Prize, presented by the King of Sweden, to add to her accomplishments.
