Juliana Amaral is a 35 years old brazilian composer, singer and actress. Her first album AGUAS DAQUI was released by Lua Music in 2002 with musical direction and production by the pianist Luis Felipe Gama and the co-production by Robertinho Silva, a reputated brazilian drummer and percussionist. JULIANA SAMBA, her album released in 2007, whose repertoire brings together a number of different generation of composers as Cartola, Heitor dos Prazeres, Luis Carlos da Vila, Martinho da Vila, Nei Lopes, Paulinho da Viola and Marcelo Camelo, was produced by Moacyr Luz, with arrangements from Paulao Sete Cordas. As a singer with the Cometa Gafi orchestra, Juliana performed in musical projects like "Da Malandragem a Pilantragem" and "Gafieira Paulista", and as a especial guest in the show "Marcal uma Dinastia do Samba" (2006), with Armando Marcal, Moacyr Luz, Wilson das Neves and Wanderley Monteiro. As soloist Juliana has also performed: album BATUCAJE Experimental Brazilian Percussion, with the same name band formed by Robertinho da Silva, Simone Soul, drummers and percussionists (2006); album TRIO CARAPIA ten stringsd brazilian guitar trio, directed by Joao Paulo Amaral (2007); album QUANDO EU CANTO MEU SAMBA (2008), composed by Rubem Nogueira and Paulo Cesar Pinheiro; album O ALUMIOSO, performed with the composer, violoncelist and rabeca player Di Freitas (2009); and others. As an actress Juliana Amaral performed Interview with Stela do Patrocinio, a small opera with songs written by Lincoln Antonio based on the poetic prose of Stela do Patrocinio (1941-1991). Georgette Fadel has directed and staged the show which was lately recorded on CD by the label Cooperativa de Musica and released on March 2007. Nowadays Juliana works on a tour disclosure of her second album JULIANA SAMBA and presents the spectacle SAMBA MINIMO which includes her own compositions and other sambas from very well known brazilian musicians. To make the seam between the songs, the singer reads poems from Bertolt Brecht, Paulo Leminsky and Ana Cristina Cesar. Since 2005, Juliana appears on a nightly show, every Thursday on a traditional samba house in Sao Paulo named "O do Borogodo". _______ about SAMBA MINIMO_______ The show Samba Minimo (Minimal Samba) is based on Juliana's Amaral concern to consider the samba as a set of musical and literary contents which allows the rephrasing of some wide and wise questions related to esthetic and artistic tensions. Unlike most of the interpreters who have recently been working on the repertoire of samba, this show is not structured as a series of songs, but as a poetic unit, which integrates music, word and gesture. The spectacle is not conceived on a traditional structure bringing up to the public current issues from urban and contemporary world like love, loneliness, violence, tenderness, joy, sadness, and abandonment. These subject matters are treated in different ways - sometimes with gentleness, sometimes with rudeness, but always preserving the natural characteristic of the samba.
