Marek has started his music career at the age of ten by studying classical music. Trained classically for ten years he discovered that other styles of music involve more creativity and improvisation so he first joined a blues band and then went on to study jazz at the local college. After graduating with honors he started performing his originals with his band “Staff Only”. He took the second prize at the Jazz Juniors festival in Krakow and seventh prize among 178 contenders in the Belgian European Jazz Contest, which encouraged him to apply to Berklee College in Boston. A scholarship he received from Berklee helped him to launch the next step in his career. He graduated from Berklee summa cum laude after five semesters.

The move to New York, after graduating from Berklee - was the next step. Fifteen years in New York gave him a chance to perform with Tommy Campbell, Mark Soskin, Harvie Swartz, Donny McCasslin, Boris Kozlov, Michael Urbaniak, Urszula Dudziak and John Abercombie. His original duo project with John Abercrombie was reviewed by Bill Millkowski for Jazz TImes as “brilliant collection of luminous, warm -toned improvisations” He has written, produced and recorded numerous projects involving his own music at Avatar Studios in NYC. After moving back to Poland for four years to teach, he returned to Boston and is currently on Berklee staff.
