NATASA MIRKOVIC
THE voice
A native of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the actress and singer studied musicology, song and piano in Sarajevo and later on in Graz and Vienna.
Living in Vienna since 1994 she became well known as magic voice of the "Sandy Lopicic Orkestar". Beyond that, Natasa convinced on stage in the brilliant role of Kassandra in her solo-project Kassandra - Laments Of the Balkans. Together with her favourite duo-partner, the Austrian hurdy-gurdy-player Matthias Loibner, she released the CD "Ajvar&Sterz" in April 06 with music from Austria and from the Balkans. For this production they won the Austrian World-Music Award in December 05.
"The Boy and the Butterfly" - fairy tales and the most beautiful children's songs from the Balkans in the respective original languages and "Mountain Music" has been performed for the first time in Konzerthaus Wien in May 2007. The band project "Natasas Wedding" followed this production in April 2008 in Konzerthaus Wien.The band-project BOSNIAN FLAVORS - dealing with Bosnian ballads & songs in modern arrangements, has been finished and performed for the first time at Balkan-Fever-Festival Vienna. In November 2010 Natasa released F.Schubert/W.Muellers WINTERREISE with Matthias Loibner in a very special version for voice & hurdy gurdy on RAUMKLANGrecords.
Her recent project SOUL MOTION with serbian bass-player NENAD VASILIC deals with songs from Ex-Yu of the 70ies and 80ies - and transferres this POPULAR-songs to veritable Chanson-quality, just in line-up of voice & double-bass.
Natasa Mirkovic is performing the title-song WHEN THE HEART DIES on the soundtrack of Angelina Jolie's directorial debut "In The Land of Blood and Honey" to the music of GABRIEL YARED (Oscar awarded for his music in The English Patient). The soundtrack has been released in Jan. 2012.
