AGORA
With the ten tracks on this album, NIM SOFYAN take us on a particularly sensual visit to the market. "Agora" (Greek for market place) stands for Vienna as a city of music. A metropolis, a place of interchange and encounter, where day by day musicians from very different countries create a new, common language of music.

Six accomplished, versatile instrumentalists get involved with each other and together they build bridges with their music into so far unheard soundscapes. A basic element of the band's repertoire are those songs from Turkey and Greece that Istanbul born singer and guitarist Alp Bora grew up with. In sophisticated arrangements and original compositions Paul Dangl and Johann Öttl weave this material to a harmonious stylistic whole. NIM SOFYAN are fluent in many musical dialects, such as Jazz and Funk, and they borrow like natural from the whole colourful range of world music.

"Agora" reflects very well the history of NIM SOFYAN itself: founded in Vienna in 2002 and already in 2004 winner of the "Austrian World Music Award" and the "audience award" in the same year. Since then they have made experiences and used opportunities on their concert tours from India to England, from Tunisia to Belgium, from Germany to Syria, which are reflected in the unusually warm sound of "Agora". At all times one can hear the musicians and the individuals behind. The pieces open the ears while one is taken on a fascinating journey full of discoveries and it may even happen that you still follow the music's traces long after the CD has finished.
