Fito Paez

Rodolfo (Fito) Páez was born on March 13, 1963 in Rosario, an argentine city located by the banks of the Parana river. Fito's childhood - his nickname since the early days- had football as his main passion and in the meantime, he would listen in his father's musical set, Duke Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim , Frank Sinatra and Astor Piazzola. Each time he woke up, he heard the tango tunes his grandmother used to hum.

The 70's were coming to an end and Fito joined the band of Juan Carlos Baglietto, also from Rosario, and who was the protagonist of a musical phenomenon that soon reached Buenos Aires. As author and piano player, Fito disembarked in Buenos Aires. Right after that, Fito met Charly García and a shortly after, Charly invited him to join his band. In spite of being part of García's band as of '83, Fito went on composing his songs and in 1984 he recorded his first solo album. In 1985, Fito recorded his second solo album called "Giros", which includes everlasting hits as "11 & 6", "Cable a Tierra" and "Yo Vengo a Ofrecer Mi Corazon". In 1986, Fito recorded a Maxi Single album called "Corazon Clandestino", which includes a new version of "La Rumba del Piano" with Caetano Veloso as a guest and he also recorded a double album called "La, la, la" with Luis Alberto Spinetta.

In 1987, Fito released "Ciudad de Pobres Corazones", and in 1988 "Ey!". After this last album, he signed a contract with Warner Music Argentina, and starts the new decade with his album "Tercer Mundo" (1990)This album had a huge success in album sales. In 1992, Fito releases "El Amor Despues del Amor", album which turned in an instant success in album sales, with over 700,000 copies sold. The tour that came after that consisted of 100 shows, including Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Spain and USA. The closing of the tour took place in Velez Sarsfield Stadium where, in two sold out concerts, over 100,000 people sang the whole of his songs.

On the second half of 1994, Páez recorded "Circo Beat", produced by Phil Manzanera and Fito Paez. "Euforia" was the first unplugged of his career in 1996. This album could be considered as a live album with an orchestra.

After recording an album together with the spanish artist Joaquín Sabina, Páez started to work on a carefully prepared project: an album with the producer Phil Ramone. This production started in New York and Buenos Aires in 1999 and in a few sessions the songs of "Abre" were registered. The release of the album aroused great expectations, which soon were reflected in the sales the exceeded platinum status.

In January 2000, the album "Abre" was released in Spain, Mexico and United States. It was then that Fito started a series of pomotional presentations in Los Angeles, Miami and New York.

The wheel never stops and in year 2000, Fito recorded "Rey Sol". All the songs were composed by Fito and the production was carried out by Páez together with Phil Ramone.

"Rey Sol" closed an exceptional year in his career, which included important international tours and two Grammy Awards, in the first ceremony of the Latin Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

After "Rey Sol", Fito decides to devote two years of his life to the project of the movie "Vidas Privadas", which he co-wrote, directed and produced. This movie was starred by Gael Garcia Bernal, Cecilia Roth, Hector Alterio, amongst others. This movie was presented in 20 Film Festivals all over the world, getting in all of them great reviews.

In the next year and a half, Fito started a huge tour all over the world, playing over 100 concerts.

"Naturaleza Sangre" (2003) is the name of Fito's last album, wholly recorded in Argentina and released by his own record Company, Circo Beat. A tour has just started in Argentina and will continue in Latin America, USA and Spain.

In 20 years of career as composer and interpreter, Fito has sold over 1,500,000 copies worldwide.
