MIMO Festival Brazil announces 2014 highlights.

The spectacular music and film festival takes place in 4 locations across Brazil this year, running from late August through to mid October 2014. The first artist announcements for the 2014 programme are below, with the full line-up coming soon.

MIMO FESTIVAL 2014, BRAZIL

MIMO is a major cultural festival in Brazil held across several locations during its annual season. Its core is an international programme of music, from classical to jazz to world music, presented in some of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Brazil. All events are free to the public and take place in churches, squares and courtyards in settings noted for their stunning Baroque architecture. This runs concurrently with the outdoor Film Festival screenings, and MIMO's Educational Programme for children from local schools. MIMO presents music, cinema, visual art, workshops and master classes in a celebration of free access to all kinds of culture. Live music highlights for 2014 include Chick Corea, Nana Vasconcelos, Salif Keita, Bassekou Kouyate, Trilok Gurtu Quartet, Jordi Savall and Toninho Horta. MIMO FILM FESTIVAL
The MIMO Film Festival combines feature films, animation and documentaries, shorts and feature-length movies – many of which are debut screenings. The films all have links to music and are projected onto open-air screens in church patios, market squares and museums. The Film Festival does not have a competition strand. All screenings are free and enhanced by the beautiful contexts of the historical host cities. The MIMO Film Festival was launched in 2004, as an integral part of MIMO in Olinda, providing a unique environment for encounters between musicians, film-makers and the public. The full programme will be announced shortly.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
The Educational Programme, is central to MIMO's programme. It is an opportunity for music students and the general public to have direct contact with the artists during free master classes. MIMO has hosted over 16,000 students at master classes, talks, conducting courses, orchestra training workshops and MIMO for Kids, aimed at school-children.

MOVIMENTO MIMO/MIMO WAVE
The expansion of MIMO's activities throughout the rest of the year is known as MIMO Wave. It includes the launch of educational activities in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Belo Horizonte; workshop programmes and communications platforms, including radio shows and apps for the festival host cities.
