Denez Prigent discovered the Breton language with his grandmother. It was a decisive revelation for him: "I felt in tune with my grandparents, with the deep peace they felt as they listened to the rhythms of nature, and I was also totally dazzled by my grandmother's voice when she expressed herself spontaneously in song.". At the heart of this fullness, song appeared.
Refusing all barriers and limits, he follows his urges and opens all doors to his music and voice. While some of his compositions still show a deep attachment to his roots, others sweep the listener away to foreign lands, suggesting the East and Ireland, or seem to draw directly on trip-hop, liturgical song and vocal improvisation developed from jazz. The latter are influenced by styles he has discovered and meetings with other artists from different musical worlds. They offer him the opportunity to feature those performers who have made the strongest impression on him, such as Lisa Gerrard, Bertrand Cantat, Davey Spillane, Louis Sclavis, Valentin Clastrier,...
Recently, new paths have opened for Denez Prigent. Director Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, Thelma and Louise) discovered his singing and included one of his compositions in the soundtrack for his latest film, Black Hawk Down.
