Calypso Rose

Calypso Rose

Calypso Rose is the ambassador par excellence of Caribbean music. Calypso and Soca's living legend, she was born on 27th April 1940 in the tiny island of Tobago in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, in the West Indies. Today, she lives in Queen's in New York but every year she returns to her island "to come back to herself" and as she explains "to find in Tobago her African Roots".

Calypso Rose wrote more than eight hundred songs and recorded more than twenty albums. She performed all over the world.

All the Caribbean diasporas English, French or Spanish speaking celebrate her feverishly. She is the only woman to have been crowned "Calypso Monarch" during the famous Trinidad Carnival of 1978.

Her personality, her charisma and her "joie de vivre" defines her as an exceptional woman, an exceptional human being. As Aretha Franklyn, Cesaria Evora, Celia Cruz or Myriam Makeba, Calypso Rose is a spirited singer and a true people's diva, singing blues, gospel, reggae, soul and of course calypso.
