Carmen Souza will release her first full band Live CD/DVD on JANUARY 28 in France under Galileo/Harmonia Mundi label.
Carmen Souza LIVE@LAGNY JAZZ FESTIVAL was recorded on oct 13 2013 in France and will be very different from the previous DUO live recording `London Acoustic set´released in 2011. This time Carmen will be in the company of her quartet with Theo Pas'cal, Elias Kacomanolis and Ben Burrell.
Portuguese/Cape Verdean vocalist/guitarist Carmen Souza has been likened to Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Eartha Kitt and Esperanza Spalding. Mixing traditional West African rhythms with contemporary jazz and singing in the creole dialect of Cape Verde, Carmen creates her own idiosyncratic soundscape. Her talent as a singer, songwriter and musician allowed her to win a unique place in the world of jazz and world music.
5 critical acclaimed albums release worldwide, in the past 8 Years, and tours that have conquered audiences in 5 continents have helped her raise a reputation for being an outstanding stage performer with an original “recipe for artistic success” as Downbeat Magazine says on a dedicated feature to Carmen Souza on this passed Oct issue.
