"When you do not know where you're going, remember where you came from".
This maxim represents the attitude of one of the most talented, creative and prolific musicians, drummer/percussionist to have emerged from Cameroon, and embedded in these humble words is his vision to bring the music of his continent and country to the world and to assure its proper place alongside other musical forms.
Ku means "authentic", "attachment to the land." Without improvisation there is no jazz as improvisation has always been at the root of traditional music. The jazz groove is the very essence of this musical concept. Brice Wassy is a gifted musician and world-class percussionist who has succeeded in creating his unique sound which is instantly recognized by his peers and public alike. He has played with Manu Dibango, with whom he recorded the album "Waka Dibango. He has also collaborated with and arranged the music of artists such as Busi Mhlongo, Toure Kunda and Colin Walcott among many others. His work as an arranger and musician is highlighted on the landmark album "Tchokola" on which he participated as principal arranger and performer with French violinist, Jean Luc Ponty. He has recorded, performed and toured extensively with Salif Keita and for six years he was the leader of the musical ensemble which accompanied this very popular singer/composer from Mali.
