This extraordinary album is especially striking as it presents the celebrated Liu Fang, acknowledged master of the Pipa, as she now shines brightly in her mastery of the Guzheng. In this collection she has taken some of the gems of both classical and folkloric modes and given them an exquisite personal expression that is both original yet well grounded in a traditional musical base.
What makes this album all the more valuable is the essay on the Guzheng by the renowned ethnomusicologist and sinologist, Lucie Rault (Mus¡¦ de l'Homme, Paris) including the very fine translations in both English and French of some great relevant classic poems from the Chinese.
