Deodato Siquir is drummer, singer, composer, arranger, born in Maputo, Mozambique in 1975.
His debut solo album BALANÇO, that was pre-leased at Womex 2007, has gotten great reviews internationally, and is now Nr. One at Mozambiques national competition of best records. Since the release, its been on World Music Charst Europe for 3 months, on top 10 on RTP, recieving 5 Djembes an nominated Top of the World in the Danish music magazine Djembe, positively reviewed at mondomix.com, behindthe notes.com, Jazz Special, etc.
And more than 10.000 entusiastic fans have been dancing and clapping to the live concerts in Europe this spring, the last being at Copenhagen Jazz Festival, at the beautiful stage Jazz by the Sea.
Born in a musicians family, Siquir started his musical carrier at the age of 13 on a self made drum kit, and was performing as professional drummer in several orchestras from the age of 15. He moved to Sweden in 2001, where he's based at the moment.

BALANÇO is recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark 2006-2007, with participation of great musicians from around the world.

The songs on the album are Siquir's compositions and arrangements written in the period between 2001 and 2006.
The music has warm, grooving pulses from Mozambique such as Marrabenta, Muthimba, and Muganda, coloured with influences from Brazil, New York and Afro Jazz, resulting in a sophisticated vibrant sound. Add soft poetic singing in a mix of Portuguese, English and Ronga and lyrics on universal themes.
