Citania was the name given for city in the Roman period in Iberia Peninsula.
A song oriented project, with a strong inspiration in the Portuguese roots and its
melancholy, but at the same time, blinking an eye to the Mediterranean breeze.
Citania is a contemporaneous world music project, which explores traditional sounds
with modern arrangements, making use of traditional instruments as Portuguese Guitar or
Bouzouki and some more classic as Cello, the female voice is one of the main instruments.
Citania has a core of experienced musicians, being a project of organic music, open to
valuable guest artists; the writing is turned to the people and to the human values.
The group live, is presented as a sextet, having occasionally special guests on stage.
Mediterraneo (book + 4CD) is the absolute debut of the project, participating with "Segredos do Mar / Mistika tis Thalassas", that in English means The Sea's secrets, sang in Portuguese and Greek, in a duet with Vitorino and
Maria Zogopoulou.
Citania is working on the debut album to be released late 2008, counting with some
remarkable guests, is a promising project, intending to renew the music made in Portugal.
