Sángo Groove is a band from Cali, Colombia which mixes traditional Colombian music and Afro-Latin sounds with Jazz, Afrobeat and Funk rhythms. A powerful encounter of Latin culture and Afro-American fusion.
Sángo Groove proposes an interesting mixture, creating new sound experiences in Colombian music. The result is a potent combination of metals, percussions, marimba sounds and a taste of Colombian pacific coast. The word Sángo belongs to Yoruba and it refers to Changó, the African Orisha: the God of Dance, Music and Thunder, also as a Quechua word that it means “Food of Gods”.
The group is led by the pianist Victor Gonzalez (he has worked with Grupo Niche, Yuri Buenaventura, Thalia, Diego El Cigala) who directed and produced the first album in his native city Cali, where all the influences, experiences and blends of this album converge.
