Critically acclaimed, singer and pianist Maira Freitas has made her recording debut on Biscoito Fino Records. For her self-titled maiden project, produced by her sister Mart'nalia (famed singer/songwriter on her own), the young singer from Rio has surrounded herself with top-notch musicians building a personal and well thought-out repertoire of songs that reflect her personality. Daughter of legendary samba and MPB star Martinho da Vila, 25 year old Maira arrives with a veteran's security, immediately imprinting her own personal Brazilian style which is both classic and popular.

Maira says she can't remember not playing the piano. She received her first instrument at age 6 - pink and adorned with Hello Kitty stickers the little piano was the first step towards a solid education as an instrumentalist and composer. With a degree from Universidade Federal Do Rio De Janeiro's Music School (UFRJ), she studied classical piano with Maria Teresa Madeira, Luis de Moura Castro, Andrea Botelho and Elza Schachter. As a concert pianist, Maira has performed at prestigious venues such as Rio's Opera House - Theatro Municipal and the Brazilian Music Conservatory. Internationally, Maira has performed in the US, Canada, Germany, Norway, Bulgaria, Chile and Argentina.

After her classical training, Maira developed a strong taste for Brazilian popular music - MPB. She loves the music of Chico Buarque, Gonzaguinha, Nana Caymmi, Paulinho da Viola and, of course, her father Martinho da Vila, among many. Maira refined her popular piano skills with well-known masters such as Cristovao Bastos, Leandro Braga, Marcos Nimrichter and Sheila Zagury.

Maira is currently touring Brazil with her band including: Humberto Mirabelli (guitar), Ze Luis Maia (acoustic bass), Joana Queiroz (horns), Andre Siqueira (percussion) and Cassius Theperson (drums).

The set list features songs from the recently released album, and her personal covers for classics such as Gonzaguinha's "Recado" and Chico Buarque's "Mambembe". Three of Maira's original compositions are also included: the solo piano piece "O Voo da Mosca", the fun-filled "Corselet" and "Se Joga". The musical journey is completed with songs "Monsieur Binot", "Jobiniando", "Se queres Saber", "Ultimo desejo", "So o tempo" and "Disritmia" which was recorded as a special duet with dad Martinho da Vila for this album.
