DJ Ipek was born as the daughter of Turkish immigrants in Bavaria, is a typical ,Alamanci' German who has set up her main camp for the last 22 years in Berlin.
She has been raised in the Orient within the Occident. As Kismet, fate, wanted it,
she spun her first tunes at the infamous queer party "Morgenland-Schleiertanz"
at the SO36 nightclub.
Resident DJ for the past seven years at the Gayhane party night, she has shaped one of Berlin's most legendary and colorful club nights. The beat caught on - and went out into the world! Just recently she was named one of the most important women of Berlin by the influential city magazine, Zitty.
It is not just in Berlin that her innovative fusions of Oriental dancefloor with House and Techno-music have been all the rage on the dancefloor. With a good sense for business, she is exporting her sound to New York, to the deserts of Mali, to Salvador de Bahia and Stockholm.

Her style, which she calls "Eklektik Arabesk KonFUSION OrAsia", is a groovy, strong, feminine and sensual mix of Nu-Oriental Dance, Pop, Desi-Bollywood-Bhangra-Indian-Soundz, Breakbeats, Tech Buka House, Asian Electronics, and Queerdance. DJ Ipek takes whatever is best from Pop, Breakbeats, Drum n'Base, R&B, House and Techno coloring it with Oriental and Asian sound attacks. She is resident DJ at Gayhane/SO36, Club Deewane/1234, Reorient/Stockholm, Kanakwood/Berlin.

Last years DJ IPEK did several international tours and took part in different festivals and events (see listings below). One of the latest highlights was the tour and cooperation with Ojos de Brujo throughout Andalucia, Spain, in December´03. Worth mentioning this years Festival au Desert in Mali, Africa, where she played.

Besides her work as dj, she works for several stage and studioprojects:
F.a. her Radioshows by the independent Reboot FM (www.reboot.fm), she designed the sound of the Cabarettshow Arabesk of die Bodenkosmetikerinnen (www.bodenkosmetiks.de). She produced a track for the Best of the wurst, a documentary-film by Grace Lee/San Fransisco, shown during this years Berlinale.

June 2004 the track Berlin 44 produced by her dj-project DubBuka Project was released by the Elektronik and Break Beat Label Dangerous Drums Records www.dangerous-drums.de.
The Popdeurope Festival Berlin compilation is also including one track.

With her DJ Project Akasha Crew she has been selected 2004 by the Jury of Germanies biggest musicfair Popkomm for a Showcase in Berlin on the 1st of October.

As for the critics 2004:
More recently Zitty, the largest and most widespread Berlin magazine, listed her as one of the most important cultural persons of Berlin, because of her way to mix and presentation of oriental and asian music founded a new style in the clubs and nightscene of the town. In Sweden DJ IPEK was ranked as the most popular European queer dj by QX, the only established gaymagazine.

For further and more specified information, please contact her on email mail@djipek.com or visit her homepage www.ipeksounds.com. She enjoys to expand her field of working and to export her music to the world. So if you're interested in cooperation do not hesitate. Upon notice she can also send you demos.
