After the awarded compilation "Beyond İstanbul“ Underground Grooves Of Turkey, the queen of Eklektik Berlinİstan, Ipek Ipekcioglu, presents BEYOND ISTANBUL 2 - URBAN SOUNDS OF TURKEY.
BEYOND ISTANBUL 2 includes different musical styles of Turkey, and seduces to dance,
showing a Turkey, that includes a subculture and Überculture, plays with kitch and kliches and transmits political and social critiques. Taking you through a range of emotions. It is a typical work by Ipek: Eclectic and dynamic.
On the one hand this album consists of soul, hiphop, trip-hop, Balkan, Tango, Rock, belly dance songs, chancons and electronica while keeping a traditional base. On the other hand, without going into the ubiquitous music on the market, Beyond Istanbul 2 takes music from Istanbul’s subcultures as well as traditional groups - putting them all together. The compilation contains Dj Ipek Ipekcioglu’s elektro-remix of the band Baba Zula.
The compilation includes a booklet in German, English and Turkish (by Murat Meric and Martin Greve - both from İstanbul).
The record relase party will take place during the festival BEYOND BELONGING IV “TRANSLOKAL”, in cooperation with Kultursprünge e.V. on the 3rd. November 2009 in Ballhaus Naunynstr./Berlin Kreuzberg.
The hightlight of the party is gonna be the live-band Orientation (also on the CD), as well as the DJ-Duo Ipek Ipekcioglu (Eklektik Berlinİstan) and Pasha aka Yavuz Ak (Minimal. They can be heard on the compilation as well with their Baba Zula Remix). DJ Zigan Aldi will spin some BalkanOrientalLatinGrooves. VJ Soner Ipekcioglu will support the event with his visuals.
