The oboist Spyros Kontos was born at Corfu(Greece) in 1974, where he first began learning music. He studied oboe in Athens at the Nakas Conservatory and graduated with the highest degree and distinction. Various scholarships supported him to study with prof.Thomas Indermuehle in Karlsruhe (Germany) and continuously with prof. Maurice Bourgue in Geneva(Switzerland).
In 1997 he was appointed solo oboist of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Athens, place he still holds. He collaborates with major orchestras and appears regularly as soloist and chamber musician. His repertoire is of a large range, with a research interest on the repertory of Greek composers, having performed the world premier of various such works.
Since 2002, Spyros Kontos is responsible for the oboe class at the Music Department of the Ionian University (Corfu) and at the Hellenic Conservatory (Athens). Since 2006, every year in July, he organizes and teaches at the "International Oboe Course of Corfu".
