Award-winning soprano saxophonist, bandleader, composer, pioneer of world music, PAUL WINTER has produced 35 albums, 11 of which have been nominated for a Grammy Award and 4 of which have won. His unique 'earth music' interweaves widely diverse instruments and elements with the extraordinary voices of what he calls 'the greater symphony of the Earth', such as wolves and whales. Paul's many recordings on his LIVING MUSIC label include albums by and with Pete Seeger, Arto Tuncboyaciyan, Mickey Hart, Nóirín Ní Riain, Davy Spillane, Oscar Castro-Neves and the Dmitri Pokrovsky Ensemble.



THE PAUL WINTER CONSORT is Winter's Grammy-winning ensemble, one of the first exponents of world music. The Consort blends classical and ethnic instruments with the spirit of jazz.



Founded in 1973 by Dmitri Pokrovsky, THE DMITRI POKROVSKY ENSEMBLE from Russia performs ancient village music from many ethnic regions in Russia as well as classical and contemporary works with folk roots. The Ensemble has performed frequently with the Paul Winter Consort, including concerts in Russia, Spain and Israel in 2003. In 1988 the Dmtri Pokrovsky Ensemble and the Paul Winter Consort recorded their ground-breaking EARTHBEAT (Living Music), the first album of original music created by Americans and Russians together, integrating Western harmonies and Afro-Brazilian rhythms with ancient circle songs and chants.
