Paul Winter Consort

Formed by Paul Winter in 1967, the Paul Winter Consort has evolved during Winter's 40-year adventure-through-music which began with his college Jazz Sextet in the early 1960's. Touring with his award-winning Jazz Sextet, close contact with the musical community in Brazil and a growing interest in the natural world and voices of the earth awakened in Paul Winter the desire to move into a broader realm of music and explore a richer texture of sound. To this end, he formed the Paul Winter Consort.

The Paul Winter Consort became one of the earliest exponents of what is now called world music, combining elements from various African, Asian and South American cultures with jazz. Recording on Winter's Living Music label, the Grammy-winning Paul Winter Consort has included some of the world's finest jazz, classical and ethnic musicians, incuding Ralph Towner, Paul McCandless, Arto Tuncboyaciyan, Oscar Castro-Neves, Jordan Rudess and Davy Spillane, and has performed with musicians such as the Dmitri Pokrovsky Ensemble, Pete Seeger, Mickey Hart and the Boston Pops Orchestra.
