A New Day - Laya Project Remixed

Chennai, May 12, 2010: Chennai based world music label EarthSync, has digitally released its new album, “A New Day” – Laya Project Remixed. The musical celebration of life, Laya Project, continues its glorious cultural journey in an all new form, embracing urban music, through “A New Day”. The album and its individual tracks are currently made available exclusively at the official site of EarthSync.

Laya Project is the musical presentation of a palette of cultures, unraveled from countries across the tsunami-affected coasts – Sri Lanka, Thailand, Maldives, Indonesia, Myanmar and India. Performances by local musicians in these countries were unearthed and recorded on location, arranged, mixed and presented as an album that celebrates the spirit of life and resilience. Five years later, urban music embraces the diverse traditions and cultures of Laya Project, giving a new perspective to the project - A New Day.

Some of the performances in Laya Project are rare and documented for the first time. Musicians included Sufi shrine singers from Nagapattinam, traditional vocalists from Myanmar, Buddhist chanting monks, tappattam drummers from Tamil Nadu and Gayo villagers from Banda Aceh in Indonesia performing the Didong, a combination of vocals and body percussion. In A New Day, musicians from the world over have come forth to remix some of the tracks, promising this to be a very successful album.

Remixers that collaborated on the album include Chris Zippel - Pet Shop Boys producer and at the forefront of the European Nu-Ambient movement, Pathaan - BBC radio show presenter and DJ, Pitch Black – multimedia artist Michael Hodgson and Salmonella Dub producer Paddy Free, Supperclub London resident DJ UMB, New York Underground veteran Nickodemus and internationally renowned electronic artists Cheb i Sabbah, Kartick & Gotam, Bombay Dub Orchestra, MIDIval PunditZ and many more. An EarthSync production, A New Day has been compiled and produced by Joshua Jacobs.

A New Day physical album will be released in stores in India and subsequently in USA, UK, Israel, Australia, New Zealand and other countries.
