- WOMEX 2017
It was in the year 2000 in Tehran where Raam became a musician by accident after one of his friends invited him to sing in their band since he was the only person they knew who spoke any English. Since then, he went on to live and work as a musician in different parts of the world including NY, LA, London and Toronto, he returned to Iran in 2014 to start a new project and work as a professional artist in Iran’s music scene again where his career first began. Soon after, he met with Sajad Afsharian, a prominent playwright and director, and collaborated with him on three projects: Iran-Australia, A Hundred Years Before Our Solitude and The 60’s Scarlet. Their collaborations became a huge hit nationally and broke a few records at the box office. Raam went on to release a few critically acclaimed singles and music videos before starting work on his album. The result was an album titled Until A Thousand And…, which was released in May of 2017. He is currently wrapping up his next album and preparing a few foreign tours. Raam’s music and persona have a dark sense of mystery that blends elements of post-punk, folk and new wave music. His sound is often compared to something between Joy Divison and Nick Cave because of his baritone vocals.
