EGEAC is responsible for the management of a number of City Council’s venues and also the organizer of the “Festivities of Lisbon”, which are carried out between June and September. These festivities “Festas de Lisboa” offer free access to a large number of events, which all the years take place in some of the most emblematic places of the city.

As a part of this program, in 2006, EGEAC organised specific music programs such as Hip-Hop, Electro and Rock, Jazz, World Music and África Festival.

África Festival had two editions (2005/2006) and it is an open-air venue where during four days are presented some of the most important names of African music.

África Festival’s concept is to show the different African cultures, in an extended perspective, crossing traditional expressions with artistic acts of the contemporary activity in the African context. África Festival’s program reveals curiosity on different sensibilities, aesthetics and approaches, different perspectives and Africans current identity paths.

África Festival 2005: Manecas Costa, Zap Mama, Mabulu, Ali Farka Touré with Toumani Diabaté, Ray Lema with Chico César, Waldemar Bastos, Lura, Tito Paris

África Festival 2006: Bonga, Cheikh Lô, Tcheka, Oumou Sangaré, Djumbai Jazz, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Stella Chiweshe, Eyuphuro.
