El Genaina
An independent organization presenting artistic training, concerts, festivals from all artistic genres and cultural fields to Egyptian audience.
El Genaina achieves its mission through two active projects: its
venue: El Genaina Theater and its educational arm: Al Darb Al Ahmar
Arts School.
Based in Cairo, the most populous city in the region, and set against
the historic Ayyubid Wall, El Genaina Theatre is a Roman-style
amphitheater located within Aga Khan's famed, Al Azhar Park.
In its twelve years of activity, El Genaina Theater has brought to
Egypt a variety of musicians and performances, both from Cairo's
underground scene and from the global music scene, including artists
from Africa, Asia and Europe. Founded in 2005, El Genaina Theater has
positioned itself one of the key stages in the region, connecting
artists within the Middle East and North Africa, and an important
platform for international artists wanting to connect to the region's
musical community
On the other side of the Ayyubid Wall, lies Al Darb Al Ahmar Arts School project which was initiated in 2010. DAAS also seeks to raise the awareness in the underprivileged district on the value of art and its role in community development. The school focuses on educating youths between the ages of 8 and 18 years in music (percussion, wind and brass instruments, and accordion) and the performing arts theater, circus and dance), with special emphasis on expressive and
performance skills.
