Born in 1977, La Lionetta has been for long
one of the most popular and appreciated
bands in the Italian folk revival, as well as the
less orthodox. Its first record, "Danze e ballate
dell'area celtica italiana" (Dances and Ballads
of the Italian Celtic Area), published in 1978,
was warmly welcomed by both critics and
public. After the release of its second album,
"Il gioco del diavolo" (The Devil's Play), the
band slowly decreased its activity until it finally
stopped.
La Lionetta reformed in 1995 and started
anew the proposal of their repertoire,
characterised on one hand by the original
composition of music and lyrics and on the
other hand by a strong and unconventional
attitude towards melodies. The new album,
"Ottoni e settimini", received enthusiastic
reviews all over the world, and it is considered
to be one of the best folk albums Italy has
produced in the last 10 years.
Following the extraordinary welcome the
public recognised to “Ottoni & settimini” , the
band is now proposing again its unusual
blend of songwriter’s folk music in “Arzan”
(“Silver”). An acute reflection on nowadays’
Turin, multicultural and multiethnic, able to
consider the great tradition of the European
ballad and the truest Italian-style songwriting
at the same time.

"La Lionetta must be an extraordinary
experience during a live set, although their
power and liveliness is already rendered
effectively on the cd. This is absolutely superb
music performed by talented musicians; the
listener cannot but perceive the fun they have
in playing. I simply love this album, and I put it
on my cd player over and over again. A definite
must" - Folkworld
