Tammurriate, tarantelle, fronne are the basis
this band from Campania improves upon;
these musicians offer a highly enjoyable
show, which has won a great success all
throughout Italy, France and Spain.
Sancto Ianne develops its own musical idea
making use of traditional instruments (plectra,
accordion, drums) in order to present a vast
repertoire of original songs and old tunes
from the Campanian tradition.
Due to their great energy, especially during
their live performance, they have been able to
achieve great success in several occasions.
In 2001 they won Folkontest, the italian
contest for emerging folk bands; in
consequence of this, they took part with five
concerts in the Festival Interceltique de
Lorient, where they became champions of the
Dagan Celtic Cidre contest as the best rookie
band of non-celtic music.
"This work containing traditional and authorial
lyrics and melodies is surprising for the
quality of sound, for the richness of the
rhythmical mélange and for its general
inventiveness, harmony and rhythm (...) a
sharp musical and poetic shoot: it is going to
be dazzling on stage". - World Music
"The pulsating, not to say bursting, energy of
the music by Sancto Ianne flows in particular
in the live set, overspreading from the stage to
the audience. The hurricane 'Sancto Ianne'
has successfully hit (and will continue to hit, of
course) all over half Europe, gathering
everywhere an extraordinary success" - Il
Mattino
