Tendachent is a Piedmontese group born in
the Spring of 1997 as an evolution from one of
the leading bands of the Italian folk revival, La
Ciapa Rusa: this ensemble has been around
for the last 20 years, with seven records to its
credit and a number of concerts in France,
Belgium, England, Holland, Denmark, the
United States, Canada, Germany, Finland,
Austria, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia and Croatia.
Maurizio Martinotti, founder and leader of La
Ciapa Rusa, as well as violinist Bruno Raiteri,
are also part of the new project: along with
them the guitarist Enrico Negro, and
cello player Mauro Basilio.
Part of the repertoire of Tendachent is a
revisitation of the best classic songs of La
Ciapa Rusa with the addition of new acoustic, refined arrangements.
"Getting hold of its handle, Martinotti takes a
magnificent sound out from his hurdy-gurdy,
the relic of a sometimes silent past, used by
blinds and beggars all over Europe to earn
their living, and which in so many other hands
gives the impression of being slightly out of
tune". (El Pais)
