HOTEL PALINDRONE: WINNER OF THE AUSTRIAN WORLD-MUSIC-AUDIENCE-AWARD 2005
On 3 december the Austrian folk group HOTEL PALINDRONE won the Austrian World-Music-Audience-Award 2005. Marin Lubenov's Jazzta Prasta got the jury's award. The award for newcomer bands was given to Natasa Mirkovic-De Ro & Matthias Loibner.
World music does not begin where Austrian music traditions end. HOTEL PALIDRONE proved this fact at the finals of the Austrian World-Music-Award 2005 on December 3 at the Viennese Jazzclub Porgy & Bess. And the audience agreed by voting them. With Russbacher Tänze, Schmalnauer Schleunige and the Almschroa (freely translated: alp yelling), all of them based on traditional alpine music of the 18th and 19th century, they showed how lively this music still can be interpreted.
An Estonian tune and the Galician set at the end of their performance made clear that the repertoire of HOTEL PALINDRONE is deeply rooted in a various European traditions. The emphasis on their Austrian musical roots does not mean they want to be traditionalists strictly preserving a regional heritage: The musicians consider themselves communicators who highlight and allude to the rich variety of European music.
The Austrian World-Music-Award was presented by a top-class jury for the third time, organised by the Internationales Kultur- und Kommunikationszentrum (www.ikkz.at). The other 7 finalists, chosen from 142 applications:
