Edson Velandia is one of the most eclectic, unconventional and prolific Colombian artists. He's a composer, a guitar player, a singer, a poet, a conductor of big bands and so much more.

He has coined his music as "Rasqa", and he defines it as a personal and innovating sound, deeply rooted in the rhythms of the Andean Colombian mountains.

"rasqa remains the moonshine in Velandia's musical cocktail. It's the potent, intoxicating spirit that spikes their aggressive guitar-driven melodies and sardonic social commentary. Velandia Y La Tigra, like its burro, is provocative, at times perverse, in language and imagery and yet, as a mirror of Colombian society, is also familiar and resonant with its people." MTV IGGY, 2011

"... Velandia has a passionate and brilliant style that mixes the electric energy of rock with the simplicity of country music, among other genres. 'Rasqa' is everything you could hope for in something that carries such a label. Edson Velandia coined the term to define the eclecticism, the absurdity, the politically incorrectness, and the musical seriousness of his work... it includes surreal and picaresque ballads like those of the older, characteristic folk songs from Santander, Cundinamarca and Boyaca."
Chucky Garcia, Arcadia Magazine, 2012

"'Rasqa', a genre invented by Velandia, is a rustic beat... it exploded when director Ruben Mendoza included it in the soundtrack of the 2010 film 'The Stoplight Society.'" Nathalia Mier, Sono Magazine, 2013, Colombia

"It is music with a sharp and serious voltage... I say that my film is a 'rasqa' film because I feel like it resembles his (Edson Velandia's) music."
Ruben Mendoza, Director of the film "The Stoplight Society," Shock Magazine, 2012, Colombia

"There is, without a doubt, a savage feel that we rarely experience on our stages plagued by formalism and institutionalism."
Invazion.net, August 2010, Colombia
