Author, poet, storyteller, playwright, producer, musician, songwriter, artist and festival organiser, Marcel Meltherorong, or Mars Melto, as he is known in Melanesia, is a leading figure on Vanuatu's cultural scene. His first band, XX Squad, became the area's most successful band with its mix of socio-political commentary and Pacific roots and reggae rhythms and his latest project Kalja Riddim Klan (KRK) blends indigenous instruments with modern technology to create a vibrant musical backdrop for his poetic examinations of contemporary issues. He brings to WOMEX a specially convened collaboration with renowned Australian musician, composer and leading light of the band Not Drowning Waving, David Bridie, together with producer and percussionist Airileke Ingram from Papua New Guinea and Polish violinist now based in Vanuatu, Monika Stern.
