The Festival d’Ile de France offers each year, in September and October, about thirty concerts in the heritage locations of the Ile de France. Its varied programme offers classical music, from baroque to contemporary creations, world music, with frequent connections between these repertories, and the Factory series, devoted to jazz and electronic music.

Music and legacy

For each show, the Festival d’Ile de France makes both musical discovery and the discovery of regional heritage coincide. This relationship is, from the beginnings of the festival, an essential element of its identity. Music and locations are selected in close relation, so that the container and the contents mutually provide meaning and emotion.

The public is not misled by this: the musical enthusiast, he too comes in search of the various locations that are often inaccessible to the public, such as châteaux, churches, theatres, circuses, old factories or picturesque farms. Every year, the Festival settles in new places.

A powerful regional stronghold

Another essential point of the identity of the Festival d’Ile de France : its very strong local settlement. On the one hand because the festival is an initiative borne by the Region of Ile-de-France, which is its main financier, and supported by the eight departments which compose it. Also because the FIF is an itinerant festival, which offers concerts both in significant Parisian halls as well as in small rural villages of this very large suburb. Lastly, because it is with the population of Ile de France that, one production after the other, the success of the Festival d’Ile de France can be built, thanks to the synergy created with elected officials, administrations and associations of the local network.

The audience of the Festival d’Ile de France

The Festival d’Ile de France welcomes between 20,000 and 25,000 spectators for each season.
The presence of the parisian audience is confirmed for all the Festival events, and the spectators residing in the departments where the concerts are organized are also very present. The Festival d’Ile de France benefits from a loyal audience, ready to travel to discover its programme. It has also known how to diversify its audience and to implement a powerful local stronghold, as shown by the advertising awareness campaigns which affected more than 3,000 people in 2007 (both school and adult audiences) and the multiple partnerships developed, each year, over the whole Region of Ile de France (associations, works councils, town partners, tourist and cultural network).

The Festival d’Ile de France and its support

The Festival d’Ile de France is an association under the 1901 law, born 30 years ago.
A regional tool for the distribution of the music and development of its heritage, the project is conducted by the Regional Council of Ile de France, with the support of the general Councils of departments of Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d’Oise, the City of Paris and the communes hosting the concerts.
Several organizations in the cultural and musical fields also support the Festival d’Ile de France, for example SACEM (Society of authors, composers and music publishers). The cultural institutes of Paris and abroad also constitute vital stepping-stones for the activity of the FIF.
Each one of these partnerships generates contributions that are both invaluable as well as varied, in the form of subsidies, logistical support, or strengthening of communication.
